Is United Healthcare Dual Complete the same as Medicare Advantage? ›

UHC Dual Complete® (HMO D-SNP) is insured through UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company or one of its affiliated companies, a Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare contract and a contract with the State Medicaid Program.

Yes — but you have to enroll in Medicare Part A and/or Part B. For a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, you must have both Medicare Part A and Part B to apply.

When an individual has both Medicare Parts A and B, Medicare is the primary insurance and pays for most medical care. Medi-Cal is the secondary insurance, and it pays for costs not covered by Medicare and provides additional benefits not covered by Medicare.

Once you stop working (or lose your health insurance, if that happens first) you have an 8-month Special Enrollment Period (SEP) when you can sign up for Medicare (or add Part B to existing Part A coverage).

Restrictive networks

Medicare Advantage plans, however, have provider networks. In some cases, you'll have a higher share of costs when you see an out-of-network doctor. In other cases, you're not covered at all if you go out of network.

Medicare-Medicaid enrollees include people ages 65 and over who are in relatively good health but have limited financial resources and people who at one time, may have had more financial resources, but spent their income and wealth on health or long-term care costs.

Retirees can't have more than one Medicare supplement plan or one at the same time as a Medicare Advantage plan. To cut costs on health care, start by calculating whether a supplement or an Advantage plan will save you the most money.

Is AARP Medicare Advantage the same as Medicare? No. AARP UnitedHealthcare Medical Advantage plans are provided by private health insurance company UnitedHealthcare. Medicare Advantage plans must follow the rules of Original Medicare provided by the government.

UHC Medicare Advantage plans cover features and benefits in addition to those included in Original Medicare. Members in some areas may have different plans from which to choose.
